Rationale:​

The purpose of this study is to make the Teachers especially in Elementary  to be aware on this issue. Its main goal is to protect the child from all forms of violence that may be inflicted by adults, persons in authority as well as their fellow students, including bullying. 

Problem /Case:​

Mother of a pupil reported a teacher who hurted her child physically.
Provision:​

The incident could be considered water under the bridge, several observers pointed out that it is a violation of the Department of Education’s Order No. 40, Series of 2012, (DepEd Child Protection Policy) issued on May 14, 2012.

The order sets the Policy and Guidelines on Protecting Children in School from Abuse, Violence, Exploitation, Discrimination, Bullying and Other Forms of Abuse.

Its main goal is to protect the child from all forms of violence that may be inflicted by adults, persons in authority as well as their fellow students, including bullying.

The order mandates zero tolerance for any act of child abuse, exploitation, violence, discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse.

The policy guidelines listed physical, verbal, and sexual abuse and violence as forms of child abuse which could be inflicted by teachers and other school personnel.

Online site www.teacherph.com noted that 3 out of 10 children in Grades 1-3 and almost 5 out of 10 in high school experience physical violence (such as pinching and hitting) committed by teachers.

Further, approximately 4 out of 10 children in Grades 1-3 and 7 out of 10 in higher grade levels have complained of verbal abuse by their teachers.

Root Cause/s:​

The teacher got irritated because of the child’s behavior. She lost her patience that was why the she hurt the pupil.

Impacts :​

The pupil experienced a trauma because of what the teacher did to him. He was afraid on going to school again because of what happened.

Solution/s:

As a Professional Teacher, they should be patient enough to understand their student/pupil's behavior. They should not let their temper arise for them to hurt their learners.
